Windows Remote Desktop

I'm having problems with Windows Remote Desktop.

I have a distant friend who is having an issue with his computer. In the past, I have connected to a friend from Boston all the way from Texas. So I know what I'm trying to do can be done. With that being said, why is it that I can connect to some computers and not the others? Does it have something to do with the operating system? Router ports? All of their settings are enabled to allow remote connections, but still for some reason it won't let me in.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Maybe a 'All you need to know about Windows Remote Desktop guide?'

Or, you could try http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

Download it on both ends. Get your friend to give you their username/password and away ya go.

As for distance to connection. I have a friend just North of Boston, I am on the East coast of England.

Her boy's laptop was littered with viruses, took a couple of go's to get teamviewer installed but once it was I could then clean it up from here.

Took a fair few hours only due to the number of viruses on it.
