my computer was working fine until yesterday it got restarted once unexpectedly and since that restart my computer start to restart by itself occassionally i scanned my computer but no viruses were found and today i reinstalled the whole window again(reformated my HDD) and the problem still presist it still restart by itself occasionally (i was able to boot the window all these time, the problem only happens when i have logged into window) i assume this might be a hardware problem? hence my computer is nearly 3 years old..but still i dont know what is wrong with it and sometimes when it is restarting by itself the power light on my tower case flickers a few times with this sound so can anyone help me please? thanks

To see what error it is getting do the following:

If you are able to get into Windows long enough do the following:

1) Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties
2) Select the Advanced tab
3) Under the Startup and Recovery section click the Settings button
4) Under the System Failure section, uncheck Automatically restart

If you are not able to get into Windows long enough try this:
1) When your computer starts to boot (after the POST, but before Windows starts to load) press F8 to bring up the Advanced Startup Options menu
2) Look for an entry that says something about disabling automatic restarts and choose it, then try to boot normally

These will make it so you can see the BSOD when your system fails, and may give some indication as to what is causing the failure.

not to thread jack but!

the same thing has been happening with me
and also a friend of mine and my self reapplied the thermal paste because we thought the old cpu might be overheating idle temp =50-55
(celeron D 2.66 ghz) and when he pushed on the brace a bit the temp went down as if it was acutually making connection..any ideas how to keep it locked down tighter?

You should probably create a new thread.

i have already unchecked the automatically restart on the system failure part but it still resrtart by itself with black screeen not BSOD so i think its not a software problem and now my computer got worst it wont even boot when i turn on the computer the power light just keep flickering with this sound so i think my PSU malfuntioning?

could be overheating. turn off your computer, unplug, and use compressed air to clean the heatsink/fan/and other components.

this is especially true if you notice that it restarts when using cpu intensive programs

if the above doesn't work then then it could be power supply failing. just get another one. the flickering led light may be an indication. also note the beep codes as it may tell you there's a problem with the power supply or other hardware. compare the beep codes with your motherboard website.

that happened to me and a simple dust clean out fixed the problem, but urs seems more serious then that. also i moved my tower onto the floor not long before i started having problems so i think down there is sucked in a lot more dust than it would raised up on a desk or something.

@Candy agreed
Clean ur system with an air blower and try to specially clean out ur RAM slot as well.
