windows server 2003 drive mounting issues

does anyone know of a way or a program that can unmount a removable SATA drive in windows 2003? it seems that the drive ends up in use and won't free itself to be unmounted.it's being used in a removable chassis as a backup device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
does it appear as a removeable device in device manager, i noticed that on xp my hdd appears and you can "safeky remove it", if thats on server 2003, you have just answered my question as to why you would want to remove a hdd, thanks, but sorry i don't think i can help you
