I have a second computer (desktop, pentium four Windows XP pro)thats been running fine until just a few hours ago. The computer froze up and shut down when i was checking my facebook. When i rebooted my computer it started asking for a password. And i've never set one, and i live alone. So i tried getting into command prompt, but i can't boot my computer any which way without this password. I have a lot of important documents saved on my computer so reformatting is not an option since i'll lose a lot of money and my job. Anyone know how i can regain access to my computer? I've never seen a computer do this before, so i have no idea whats going on.

LMAO That happened to me when I was setting up a cousin's computer. His dad is constantly blaming me for wasting his money, but its his fault for trying to set up a generator at the same time.

You tried admin and administrator?

I've tried every password i can think of, everyone i've used, including ones i havn't used since i was 13.

Hello Smacky,

if you need the docs ASAP, you can always remove your HD and attach it to your other comp. (provided it's a desktop) or connect it to another desktop as secondary drive and copy any necessary files onto a flash drive or other storage device if you need to use them immediately.

If you have any questions about how to do that let me know...

You can also log into BIOS and use "Last known Good Configuration." Give that a try.

Boot to safe mode, log in on the administrator account, go into control panel, user accounts and click on your user name and then click on remove password. Then log into your account normally after rebooting the computer.

if it has a username you can try using ophcrack

ophcrack.sourceforge.net

which is used for cracking windows passwords havent tried it myself but from what i hear it is succesful at cracking almost all passwords, not sure if it works without a username tho
