Windows setup not recognizing hard drive... help :)

I'm trying to install Win XP on my mates computer. Reinstall it actually, format his disk and then do a clean install.

However, when booting from the Win XP CD windows setup cant recognize his cd. So, I look in the Motheboard manual (GA-8VT880P Combo) and it says that it can happen, and to copy the drivers to floppy. Only thing is, there are like 14 options to chose from and it doesnt ell me which one I should choose.

But, I see he has VIA RAID tool installed, so I choose that one. Try Windows setup again, press F6 to install SCSI/RAID tools, from disk.

But, it reports an error with the txtsetup.oem file.

And it still doesnt recognize it.

So, my question is: what can I do now? Can I download the correct drivers from the net and save them to floppy and try with that, or?

The Hard drive is a Maxtor Maxtor 6 L080M0.

Thanks in advance :)

You mean it cant recognize the harddrive, if it couldnt see the cd it would not be booting at all!

Theres no point install RAID or SCSI drivers unless your running RAID or using a SCSI drive. Does the comnputer have a IDE or SATA harddrive?

Apparently the VIA RAID tool is installed on the system there. That suggests a Sata is being used as the OS drive along with the need for a driver floppy. Once the correct drivers are on a floppy you may have to retry loading them a few times. A friend ran into the same problem where the XP installer couldn't detect a Sata drive while it was clearly seen listed on the post screen.

Yeah, sorry, I ment the harddrive, not the cd.

And yes, it is a SCSI drive. and It has VIA RAID Tool installed, I see it every time the computer starts up.

I've found some drivers on the Gigabyte website and I'll try to finds some more on Maxtors.

The link I posted earlier will bring you right to the download page. You just to select the correct one from a ...LLonnggg... list of models to choose from. But that's always the fun part anyways.

Oh, sure. Well, my biggest problem was that I couldnt find the correct drivers on the motherboard CD, since the manual said to copy the files to a floppy, but didnt specify which ones. So, I went to the Gigabyte website and found the motherboard my mate has and downloaded the drivers from there, saved them on a floppy.

After that just pressed F6 in windows instalation, it recognized the drive and it went smoothly from then :)
