windows sp2 ??

hi i have windows xp from about a year ago and just had to reinstall. I was just wondering is sp2 necessary and if so how should i get it. I dont have the disc, and ive downloaded it off the internet but i think ive picked something up both times ive tried it.(my computer takes forever to shut off after downloading it twice now)I dont know if theres a safe place to get it. can i just do my automatic updates and get it that way. will i get everything i need through windows automatic updates?

Yeah, if you let the automatic update run it will get SP2 for you. But it will not download all the upates is one big download. you might have to let if run several times to be up to date.

thanks, i think ill load windows one more time and just try the auto updates. Ill see if this will stop my computer from the slow shut down. Right now at times ill come back 10 minutes later and its still trying to shut down

i think sp2 does solve the slow shut down problem. i used to get it before i had sp2. sp2 is also work it because it closes up a load of security loopholes and the firewall has been improved
