SORRY if this is in wrong spot.

did a fresh install of win 7 on a laptop and everything was updating fine till UPDATE needed its own 'Agent UPDATE'

Since it auto installed, windows update now just sits there "searching" been hours now!

HELP

Yup downloaded the x64 file for win7 sp1

installed successfully

ive even done a restore.. just sits there and grinds away endlessly

No I havent, but I've never had this happen and its baffling.\

should i just reinstall windows completely? maybe fresh start?

So I reformatted and activated,\\

I first manually did the agent update from your link, john.\

It works fine for now, but my belief is it is because it is a previous version then the one that locked this machine up before.
\
unfortunately, it seems the newest one auto downloads and installs or..forces you to..

any idea on how to stop that newer version from installing.. cause right now it works fine.

I've never had an issue with that. Are you installing with an image with SP1 or pre-SP1?

The problem is from Windows Update Agent which seems to auto install, or it wont let update work, after it 'updates' AGENT the problems start.

Literally took 11 hours to download 214 update, many of which failed anyhow.

This has never, ever happened before, that's why i'm baffled

What I was recommending was downloading the Windows 7 SP1 update as a standalone, installing that, and then performing Windows Update.
