Is there a way to get XP Professional to reconize USB 2.0 without installing SP1 0r SP2?

You can install special drivers for usb2.0.
Try this:

I forget to remind that before you install this drivers,you must update BIOS up to the minute and install INF drivers of chip.

The mother board (and thus the BIOS) are very newly installed and has USB 2.0 installed. I don't know what you mean by INF drivers. Thanks, Craig

In fact ,you can try it immediacy.
