Hi all, i am building myself a new computer system its going too be a AMD 64 3200 processor with two hard drives each 200 gig.
QUESTIONS : Which is the best operating system too in stall? I am planning too install a few different ones , is there such a thing as a primary operating system ? .Also any advice /places where you can advise or get information partitioning a disk for several OS .The one that is reccommende will be the first one that i purchase untill i find the rest.

Cheers

Partition the drive up, you should only have one os per partition
Then install a linux distro, there are load to choose from, pick the one you like best
install xp, great windows version for the home user (get professional version if you want more networking option)

No such thing as a primary os really, you just have a list of operating systems appear when you boot, and from that list you select the one that you want, you can specify a default one to boot too after a certain time out limit, which i suppose you could call primary os if you wanted.

If you install more then 1 OS it'll come up with a selection list at boot, what will you be using your PC for? If games then windows is a must, Linux and MAC arn't to game friendly.

the installation program for both windows and linux will do it for you, but install linux first
Install Windows first. Installing Windows first lets you use the grub bootloader when Linux is installed last, and grub will automatically find a Windows installation and let you boot from it.

The windows bootloader will not automatically find a linux installation. You'd have to play with dd and the boot.ini file in Windows before you could load Linux with the Windows bootloader.
