Windows Vista 32 bit to 64 bit

I just purchased a new HP Media Center with an AMD 64 bit processor. I've found out that the machine is installed with 32 bit Windows Vista. My problem with this is by being in 32 bit I'm losing about 2 gigs of RAM.

I've done some research and found out that you cannot buy an upgrade copy of Vista in order to get 64 bit, but rather have to buy a complete install.

My question is has anyone found a way to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit without having to pay $200 for a complete install? I've debated updating into Windows 7 beta 64 bit, since I've running it on my laptop and am very happy with it, but I'm concerned about losing all of my multimedia features to the beta install

The only way to do it is to request the disk from HP. Otherwise you will either have to buy a 64bit Vista or buy the 32bit and then buy the upgrade disk ($10).

Well the computer I bought comes without the OS installed, so I'm going to contact HP to get a new install DVD regardless.

I've heard different reports that both 32 bit and 64 bit are on the same DVD and so on, is this so?

If I do get the recover DVD with only 32 bit, am I then forced to have to buy a new copy of Vista in order to install?

yes, just get a "upgrade anytime" 64 bit vista DVD (has all versions of vista on it). you use that DVD to reformat the laptop (fresh install of windows vista) and use the windows code on the back of the computer to designate what version of vista its going to install.

this is how i upgraded from 32 to 64 bit vista on my DV9500. only other thing you need is this ABR program that you use to back up the internal preactivation code before you reformat. then once vista 64 bit is finished installing, you then use the ABR program to reinstall the preactivation code. then you're done!

if you want that ABR program, send me you email address and i'll send you the program.

Could you explain the process in alittle more detail to me, e-mail [email protected] (in case some crawler picks this up, I don't really care if it gets flooded with junk)

How would I come across an upgrade anytime disc?

I hate M$ right now, they make it so hard to ever be legit with them.
