I've heard there is a beta testing going on for Windows Vista, but I do not know how to participate. Anyone know if it is possible to, and how?

I'm not sure but if beta testing has already started then you're probbably too late to get in on it.

By the way I've heard that Microsoft is going to be releasing Visa intime for the Christmas shopping season. (some time in november)

I dont think vista will be ready by christmas, since they still have over 6 months of developing left.

The Beta is available for MSDN subscribers and IT professionals.

Alright, thanks.

I've heard it will be out mid-2006 recently on the Microsoft website, but they do seem to delay it a lot.

yea, i am aiming for 2007 when they finaly release it. I am going to wait awhile before i get it because anything from M$ is bugged when it first released.

I'm actually excited for Vista. I would love to see much less threads starting with "Help my computer is sick!" and etc. With the new permissions, it seems this will finally happen :) .

As for getting a copy of Vista, I'm pretty sure you have to be a developer or something. DO NOT look on P2P networks. Downloading operating systems off them is definettly not a good idea, and not legal in Vista's case.

All I know is that it sucks that when you buy a new system after Vista comes out, they will have Vista on that machine. They should give you a choice which operating system you want. I don't know about Vista but I've checked out IE 7 and it sucks. I'm gonna hate it when i have to build a new system.

What's wrong with IE 7? (Bear in mind, I'm typing this from Firefox on a Linux system.) I know it's not perfect, but look at IE 6. LOL... And, 7 is still a beta on an OS not as advanced as itself.

I read somewhere Vista on idol mode alone will be running at 800mb and its not worth gettin unless you at least have 1gb of RAM

Can anyone shed any light on this. I seen i potsed on a few sites!

Thats a lie, only way that could happen is if you have all of the 3D options enabled. I have the defualt settings, and i only use around 400MB. Here are some screenshots from the 5270 BETA:

Where'd you get the Beta version?? And I would think you would need the Gig of RAM, with 3D enabled, it kinda looks like Win98

Ya, thats the server edition so it doesnt have all that fancy 3D stuff. And i got the evaluation version from microsoft, but i cant tell you where ;)

I will wait 2-3 years before buying Vista. It took me untill 2004 to buy XP!!! It is just because everything has bugs when first released. I hope that it is a nice OS though... we have been waiting long enough MICROSOFT!!!

i was thinking of getting vista as soon as it was released, but then i got the beta and installed it and could not get it to work with anything, i know the proper version will be better than the beta, but my initial thoughts were to stay away, i wish ms would do a trial of the full version when it is released, as that would persuade me to buying or leave well alone. But if i can't get my hands on the full release version to try on my pc then i will either wait until i get my next computer, or until i know all my hardware will be compatible

it's a decision that i will probably have more of an idea of when i see the price

thats because its a BETA, its meant for evaluation and for developers, not to use as an OS.
