Windows Vista CD/DVD wont boot up.

I have a Compaq Presario C700, running Windows Vista 32bit.
I want to reformat it with a Windows Vista DVD I have.
I inserted it in the DVD drive and restarted the laptop. When it boots up I was prompted the message "Press any key to boot up from CD or DVD..." I pressed the space bar and nothing happens.
It basically freezes like that for a couple of minutes and than proceeds to start up the laptop like it normally would.

I tried this a couple of more times, and still same result.
Next, Ive changed the BIOS to where it boots up the CD/DVD drive first. That didn't work either.

I know my CD/DVD drive is working Ive used it last week.
I also know this laptop comes with a second partition where it has the OS on it to reformat it to factory settings. Ive done that once and it also installs all this unnecessary software along with it, that's why Im trying to use my DVD.

Has anyone else had this problem, Ive tried searching for this issue and couldn't find something similar to what I'm dealing with.
Any Suggestions?

Thank You!

Check the DVD to make sure it's not scratched or full of fingerprints. It detects the DVD but doesn't boot to it so something is up with the dvd.

Thanks for the reply, I looked at the dvd, it had light fingerprints on it, light enough that I ignored it.. I will try to wipe the dvd and give it a try and il let you know if it worked.

Okay...
So I wiped the DVD, tried it, and still nothing. Same behavior...
Than, I tried the DVD in my PC and tried to boot up, and it worked. So the DVD works.
So... I'm wondering if there could be something that keeps me from installing windows vista from a DVD since there is a partition on there with Vista and all this HP junk. Basically forcing me to reformat that way.

Since the dvd works in another machine then the dvd is fine. However, it could be the dvd drive. Do you have another bootable dvd that you can try? It's possible that the eye that reads the dvd is bad.

If that's the case, I will create a bootable usb-drive and try it. Will creating a bootable usb-drive from this burned dvd work?

If your system supports booting from usb then it should work. It's possible the dvd drive is having issues reading the burnt dvd. There may be a firmware update for the drive that may work.

Okay, so in conclusion, I created a bootable usb-drive-drive from my burned DVD. I used that to do the reformat and it worked perfect.
Thnaks for all the help Johnb35!
