Windows Vista Gaming Question?????

If I get Vista put on my PC will I still be able to play Battlefield 2, with no problems? I can run DX9 in Vista, right??

Leave'em

Thanx:)

microsoft thinks dx9 is too old. vista will have to run an emulation type program to run dx9, consuming more resources than necessary. so yes it can run, but i still hate microsoft. ( i also need windows.. poor me, lol)

I would say stick with xp until it becomes aincent because vista is a lot slower than xp and the only thing better is the graphics and wow there is a massive clock in the corner

Bull dump! DX 9 is running here just fine along with several games! You won't need any emulation anything for it to go right on at the MS download site. In fact if you go back a few pages in the screenshot contest you will find a screen from a 2002 game know as Soldier of Fortune II run with DX 9 there. In fact I need to post some Half Life 2 screens captured after installing Vista Home Premium on the second drive here. http://img145.imageshack.us/my.php?image=d1canals01a0893qz7.jpg

Vista does manage to get to the desktop faster even with the new extras piled into it. While trying to get the EAX effects for an Audigy card working Creative still only had the basic beta drivers seen at their support site. Upon setting up the Media Center now included the option for what? Sound Blaster now includes the EAX drivers needed with the menu for what type of effect like Chapel or auditorium. For a compatibility list on games and other apps go to http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List

There's been a lot of "hype" about needing this and that long before Vista beta was first out. The facts speak for themselves by simply waiting until the finished product is out and actually finding out what does and doesn't work. The main reason I bought the initial release was to find out what will and won't along with familiarizing myself with the new version. XP is still the primary for the moment until let's say an SP2 comes out for any bugs found.

I heard quite a few stating you couldn't. But simply go to Microsoft's Direct X page after Vista is now out and what do you still see? DX 9c. The one main thing that people will notice now with Vista is not only the default firewall included as well as the finished version of the Windows Defender but a new "administrator approved" install or startup of "anything"! The User Account Control is checked off by default where anything new or anything starting needs a response from you or the system administrator. If something "strange" gets on the system you can block it by choosing to not allow it to start anything.

If Soldier of Fortune II a 2002 game plus DosBox will run on it BF2 won't see any problems with the new version. The performance people actually see with it is a different matter there. But some were basing this on results seen when running things on the beta versions. Your desktop apps like dvd burning, video players other then WMP, and other programs will most likely need a newer version. They get you everytime! Some may see 2K/XP/Vista while others will see XP/Vista. Backward compatibility on desktop shortcuts is for XP only not even 2000.

You can run DX9 perfectly on Vista!

The problem with BF2 is that it uses PunkBuster, and from what I hear, Vista doesnt allow it to run.

If the server is running PunkBuster, then you will be disconnected from the gaming shortly after joining (usually less then a minute).

Is there a patch for this? Or something I could do?

I know somethings get overlooked but :eek:MG....Microsoft is really starting to piss off their customers, Microsoft wants what they want, and not what anyone else wants/needs. And the reason for this is that they are in prime control of the computing market right now. Think about this, PLZ

Thanks

PunkBuster like GameSpot's GameSpy is primarily for multiplayer use there. With any newer version of Windows you can always expect a few setbacks! MS did it again! ggrrrrr....!

Vista Is Out Of The Question!!!!!!!!
Until They Release A Second Version, Microsoft Always Has To Release Something Early When It Is Not Perfected The Way It Should Be, Who Gives Support For Nothing With Something That Is Supposed To Be So Much Better, I Think Vista Is Just A Prettier Interface, Screw Vista
I Am Sick And Tired Of It
