so this is a new pc that i pieced together. I put the windows cd in the dvd drive and it boots from it as it should. It copies all the files to my partition and then reboots. When it starts up it just boots from the cd and copies the files all over again.
If I tell it to boot from the hard drive the computer just keeps restarting.

anyone ever seen this problem?

I have!!
when it gets to the point where it would boot from the cd it just restarts...over...and over...

Make sure the IDE cable is fully attached to the drive, as well as the power cable.

assuming your talking about the dvd drive, it evidently works fine since it keeps copying the files.

it goes through the very first step, the DOS looking part of the installation.
It just wont get to the next part where it looks more like windows and it usually says 39 minutes remaining.

I think I know!

1. Go into the bios hit DEL (mabe another) continusly when the pc first boots up.
2. On mine (can't remember what one) you have to look all the boxes on the left until you find one that has the first boot 2nd ect.
3. Change Your HD it's probably ID1
4. Press F10 and exit!

Yes and if nothing is working takes all cd/dvd drives out do auto detect in bios and try then. If it dosent work contact microsoft or your bios manufaturer!
