Do you have a windows xp cd? If so boot to the cd and do a repair option and type chkdsk /r in the msdos prompt that should help fix that issue.

I do indeed have the compaq operation system cd Microsoft windows xp home sp1. How do I go about inbooting to cd, is the F2 F10?
Thanks for your help.

iono , if she slammed it really hard , im guessing the HDD broken , happen to my last laptop

No thats just the bios go into there and set it boot order or priority to cd rom first and put the cd in and hit a key so it boots to the cd type R for the recovery console and it should then ask you to log into windows pick your c drive usually number 1 and when it asks for admin password hit enter dont have to type anything unless you have set up a windows admin password in that case type it there. It should then go to a dos prompt type chkdsk /r there note the space between chkdsk and /r run that a few times and then try to boot should do the trick.

yes that what I did and then I go to save and exit, then it say :
save configuration changes and exit now.
I say yes and it restart. compaq logo comes out and the cuzor blinking but from there same message will pop out.
