I have a neighbor who had a system crash while using windows XP on her gate way pentinum pc(4 years old). tech services suggested she reload windows. She had successfully reformatted the hard drive and when she went to look for the windows disk, she found that it was gone. it was evident that this was a windows xp for Gateway systems. because when she tried to use a windows XP for Dell, it kept giving her a blue page error about unable to complete windows download.
where is the best place to find a comparable copy of windows Xp for gateway w/o purchasing the entire box? I think that there are places that sell the disk with just the os and documentation included on it.
If she cannot find this, she wanted to just purchase a gate pentinum tower with windows Xp included and rehook all the peripihals to this new unit. I told her that this wasn't a good idea. that she may have compatibility issues and in this case better to buy a new pc computer system. She told me that gateway is now technically out of business and getting help from them is a mess but if she could salvage her computer system in any way she would prefer to do that.
I need some help in this isuue as to what is the best way to do this. I am computer literate and could explain to her what has to be done but as far as what is possibly availiable to amend this problem I am at a loss.
