Windows XP Home and DirectX 10....

Iv been reading that the new DX10 will not work with Windows XP but instead a "DX9L" version will be released to allow DX10 games to play on XP, but wont be real DX10 graphics, just modified DX9.

If this is true, then in order to get the full effects of DX10 that means i HAVE to upgrade to Vista?

I really dont want to, but i just bought an 8800GTS and when DX10 games start coming out i want to use this card to its fullest...

according to MS, yes you have to upgrade to get full DX10 support, but I think that perhaps they will release a version for XP when enough people don't upgrade to vista. They said the same thing about IE 7, that it would ONLY be allowed to run on vista....

Just have to wait it out to see.

So do you think i should wait before upgrading? How would DX10 NOT be able to run on XP? I dont see why they cant just make DX10 Windows XP capatible.....iv been using XP since it came out, and that was like 2004-2005. Iv had no reason to upgrade.

Im already seperating all my files on my HDD, since i gave it 2 partions both 170gb, im transfering all my files i want to keep on one partion and just have the OS on the other ready to format and install Vista if needed....

Also, if i did have to upgrade, would any of my Windows XP games work on Vista? Like Far Cry, Doom 3, SimCity 4, and NFSMW?

not sure about games, but from what I read most xp compatible games work fine some may need a patch in vista.

MS claims that underlying technology in DX10 is not XP compatible, which is probably a bunch of super loaded BS, but you know if it forces you to upgrade it forces you to upgrade....

btw, xp came out in like 2002 actually IIRC

It was an estimate, iv had this OS FOREVER, its actually been the only OS iv used on my computers.

But yea, i think microsoft pry just wants you to give them money. Which i hate doing, they are a good company, but too damn greedy.

Well, ill wait until some DX10 games get released, and see how things go....hopefully MS will make DX10 XP capatible, cuz im sure it cant be that complex for these super computer nerds they have working for them lol.

I still like my DX9 games though, graphics are still pretty hot...Far Cry is my fav, i dont like Doom3 much, its too boxy, NFSMW is awsome, i havent played FEAR maxed but screens look freakin sweet, and I want to play Prey and Crysis when it comes out!
