Windows XP Home Edition Reboot Loop

My mothers XP Home Edition is looping. For about two weeks you could go into the Bios and choose to load from hard drive. We couldn't figure out why that was happening. Today it decided that wasn't enough. It keeps coming up with the following error message:

STOP: c0000269 {Illegal System DLL Relocation}
The system DLL kernel32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly.
The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\GDI32.dll occupied an address range reserved for window system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL shou %s %s

We've tried reinstalling from the disk, I don't remember what that did but we got nowhere. Theres a whole list of steps involving gdi32.dll to replace it and then we're supposed to reboot. That didn't work either. So ya help? Please. I'm lost. :pcmad:

Sounds like you may have a bad hard drive or another piece of hardware is failing.

If you can get into the OS (try safe mode), download BlueScreen View, run it, then go to File -> Save As and save it as a text document, then copy the contents of the text document into your next reply.

Download BlueScreen View here http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

I can't even get to the OS. I just get the Windows XP loading screen followed by a blue screen proclaiming the above error.

I think this is corrupted file problem.

Did you try to restore your system? It happened to me a while ago (the loop problem) but I didn't had the BSOD. I reinstalled WinXP and problem was gone. But before that, i'll try a system restore.

Yeah try a repair install of XP. See if the problem persists.

If it does, then it could be faulty hardware.

Well let's hope that hard disk drive is NOT dead.(Because I hate when HDD dies lol).

Maybe when you were reinstalling OS from the disk you did something wrong such as attempting to REPAIR a corrupted Windows OS which cannot be repaired or attempted to install/reinstall Windows to already existing partition(s).

What I would try is to completely erase the entire hard disk drive with Kill Disk and then (using Windows XP disk) try to install XP on "Unpartitioned space" ONLY because XP will then automatically create ONE partition which uses the entire drive and then install to that partition.(When you are asked to choose a file system, choose NTFS,but do not use the QUICK method).

This would be a last resort, let's try to repair it without losing data first :)

I have a feeling it's her hard drive going. If I can get everything important off her computer and onto my macbook (yes I use Apple but only my laptop) then I can wipe her drive and try a completely fresh install. If that doesn't work (which it probably won't) then we're building her a new one as long as she pitches in.

If the HDD is dead then there is a very small chance of getting anything off of it. Get an external USB connector and power source and try to access it via another PC. That's about all you can do.
