Windows XP Home Server

Is it possible to convert windows xp home into a server? I have tried 2003 and I just give up...(see a different post.) I just need a basic file server.

You could setup file shares on windows xp home. The issue is just the limitations it has as far as how many users can be connected to it at one time. If it's just you wanting to share some files at home you don't need a server operating system for that.

Cheers man, can you walk me through it, because for some reason my shares never are accessible.

What kind of error does it give you when you try to browse for shares? When you browse to the computer do you see the folders and then when you click on them get a permissions error or do you get an access denied type error when you try to browse to the computer in the first place? (don't even get far enough to see what folders are shared)

Sometimes an access denied, sometimes barrs me from permissions.
Can I ask you have a look at my other thread about server, as this may cause a problem here and I need remote access.

i think in XP there is a option that by default is unselected that says something like "or allow file editing" try that and i assume they are in the same workgroup.
