I have a Gateway laptop with Windows XP on it. It's almost 10 years old but in decent working condition. I went to reformat the hard drive with the OS disk that came with it. Half way through installation it says it cant find a certain file on the disk. As this has never happened before, I took the disk out to look at it and noticed there was a crack that has indeed made it to the actual reading area.
Now I do have another Windows XP disk that I can use, but for some reason, when I try to use it, the computer goes back to the installation setup and tells me it cant find the file again.
Is there any way to start another windows installation with one setup not being complete? It doesn't give me the option to boot from CD like it normally does.
I have went through the bios to make sure the cd-rom is the first device to boot from.
Thanks in advance,
Keith
