Windows xp keeps frrezing

Hi, I'm trying to switch on my PC and it gets as far as the windows xp logo and freezes. Any clues please?

scandisk for errors see if u can get into safe mode f8

Just tried that a couple of times and it won't let me do anything, just froze again. Lookin for a skip now...........

if u have xpcd u can try repair console.

It won't do a thing now. I switch on and it doesn't make any noise, no flashing lights, nothing.....
