Hey, New to this forum so please bear with me, and XP is doing my head in basically the problems are:

-At start up, I get a "Fatal Error Flaw" and "Fatal Error, Program cannot run"
but the computer doesn't actually doesn't shut down and runs fine
-When opening a microsoft office file, a box says "another dialogue box is open"

Also, at random moments, the computer asks to install "photogallery"....

arghhh lol please help, is it a virus?

i've done this, i have a feeling its a virus, but did a virus scan and it didn't catch anything, hmm

It could be several things:

-Registry problem
-Virus/Spyware etc.
-You are the first person who has encountered this problem :P

EDIT:

Stay away from porn/crack sites, if you really have to go there use firefox, it's far more secure than IE IMO.

man, my other comp is fine, this one is doing my nut in lol done a reformat about 2 times now, still cocks up, grrrrr....cheers for your help though guys

If you already reformated it twice, are you sure you are installing proper drivers for your system, lol

Here are some things to consider

As far as the start-up issue:

I tend to agree with filip-matijevic in that it sounds like a virus/spyware type of issue or perhaps some scripting error somewhere. Although if you have reformatted twice and immediately after that, the same problems were there, well that does seem strange. When you reformatted, you had three options:

1. quick formatting of the partition (is faster but not as "thorough")
2. regular formatting (which takes a bit longer)
3. you actually did not reformat, but you chose to "repair" windows.

So, which one did you choose? If you chose number 3, then I wouldn't consider that a way of truly wiping out your problems. If you chose number 1, well, that should work, but if problem persists then do number 2.

If you already tried number 2, then as long as you were not connected to the internet immediately afterwards, then it could be a driver or scripting problem, although technically the installation from scratch like that should work fine without the same problems reappearing - unless you have a disk error or wrong/bad drivers installed for your equipment.

So, let me know what you have done.
Also, what kind of virus protection and spyware etc.. protection do you have? I definitely recommend installing (if you don't aleady have them):

  • Spybot Search and Destroy (free and in setup I would choose to install the tea timer to monitor your registry changes live)
  • SpywareBlaster (free and is a proactive protection)
  • Ad-Aware (free)
  • Spyware Doctor (free to scan system and free for live protection, but if an infection is found to have to purchase the program to quarantine infection)
  • CW Shredder (free tiny program cleans traces of CoolWebSearch)
Internet Privacy Keeper (free - erases tracks and junk left over from surfing)

All of the bulleted above except for Spywareblaster and CW Shredder have a scanning options to see if any errors are found. Of course on top of this, you need a virus scanner and if would be recommended to search google for a good registry cleaner.

For example CleanMyPC or Registry Mechanic (from the makers of Spyware Doctor).

Here are some other options for virus, spyware etc. protection in case you want to check things out more. These are all free.
You can also compare Antivirus programs here.
a-squared
Bit Defender
ClamWin Antivirus
WinPooch

Ok, now that I have bombarded you with links to programs, you can have some scanning to do. In my opinion, the ones in the bulleted list are a must plus some kind of registry cleaner and of course anti-virus protection.

Now, I'm not sure if this will work for you, but I had some similar strange problems and it turns out they were visual script related issues. I reinstalled the Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 and the problems were solved. Every now and then they come back for some odd reason and I quickly reinstall it again and poblems are solved. I have scanned every last bit in my PC with every program out there and have not found any virus or spyware etc... junk. I can't explain why it happens, I just know how I solve it. So, maybe you can give that a try. Kind of a shot in the dark, but hey, it's worth a try.

And now in terms of your Microsoft Office "open dialog box" issue:

I recently started having that same problem. It doesn't always pop up, but half of the time it does - but only with Word. Also, I can't open Excel files unless I first open Excel and from there open files. As of yet, I have not figured it out, but my guess is that it is not related to your other problems. My computer is fine and stable except for that annoyance.

Ok, are you sick of reading yet? LOL.
Let me know if any of this helps, and give me more detail as to how you have reformatted and what protection programs you have.
Now, I wish you the happiest PC-scanning time ever. :D
