are there any advantages to having windows xp pro x64 besides the fact that i would be able to run 64-bit software (which i don't think there's a lot out right now)?

Hi dhaynes,
there are no much differences today, because most of sw is written in 32 bits. In my network we are using 2 computers with a 64 processor, and they are creating more problems that the rests because drivers and sw in general does not work with this new type of prcss.
One day in the (not very far) future we will enjoy a double speed when using 64 bit.

64-bit drivers are available but they are a little rare at the moment. It shouldn't be a problem, most maufacturers do supply 64-bit versions of hardware and software.

It may just be some old software that needs debugging/ alterations.

64 bit does not double the speed, even if the drivers and software are up to scratch. there will be a small increase in speed when the developers and hardware manufacturers get their backsides into gear but thats about it.

there wont be any real advantage to 64 bit until windows vista comes out in my opinion. then we'll see everyone jump on the bandwagon that is 64 bit and only then will we see the real benefits.
with regards to games we'll see higher levels of detail in every area of the game
