Windows XP prob

I'm having a very annoying problem I can't seem to get around. A while back, my computer just arbitrarily (as far as I can tell) decided to send me to a password screen before Windows XP loads. Unfortunately, I never set up any password, and none of the passwords I would have used work. If I don't enter any password and just hit enter, it appears to start loading but freezes almost immediately. At first I couldn't even get to the safe mode menu screen, but after messing around in the bios I found a setting that was disabling the keyboard during loading. So now I can try to load in safe mode but the exact same thing happens. Password screen and freezing. So I tried to repair Windows with the CD. I put the CD in and it goes to a blue screen loading components at the bottom. At this point my keyboard is still responding. It loads up another blue screen which gives me some options: Repair Windows, Format/ Reinstall Windows, and Quit. As soon as it loads this screen, though, my keyboard is frozen out again and I can't select anything (the keyboard's indicator lights like numlock and capslock also turn off), and I have to restart. I really don't want to lose everything on my hard drive, and even if I didn't care, I can't get into Windows or use the CD to format the drive. I'm going to go get another keyboard today and see if that helps, but I don't think it will, so, in case it doesn't, does anybody have any ideas about what's going on and how I could fix it? Thanks for any advice.

well the safe mode has the administrator account that has usually no password ( unless you set one during installation), so try from there.

I tried to get into safe mode, but unfortunately the same password screen pops up during loading. I know I never set an administrator or any other kind of password, but I get the same screen.
