Windows XP problem

Good evening everyone.

I have a problem with my laptop, it will not load. On the screen I am asked to select and operating system to start. The options that I am given are Old disk structure--06-11-19 0255PM\WINDOWS= and Microsoft Windows XP home edition.

After I have selected Microsoft Windows XP home ED, structure I then get a message saying...Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

When I select old disc structure this message appears....
<Windows root>\System32\hal.dll. - reinstall above file.

Is there anyway I can repair this by downloading software, and where would I get it?

Thanks in advance.

The system registry is involved there. Using the recovery disks or assigned key combination for a preinstalled copy of Windows to restore the factory condition would be the option there.

For recovery disks you would have to have those ordered from the dealer where the system was purchased or through an authorized service center. The manufacturer's support site will often have instructions for creation of those however. For that you take the make and model information and review the support site's Faq section for instructions.
