windows xp professional clean or reinstall with home edition cd

I have a laptop with windows xp professional. for some reason my password is not working so i am unable to log in. i use a recovery password program but it didn't work. now i can't log in into my computer even if i am a guest. i use to able too. so i was wondering can i do a clean or reinstall my computer with windows xp home edition cd. i can't find my windows xp professional cd
 
Before you go to those extremes Google for "Lost password" and folow some of the suggestions offered.
