Windows xp run faster

I hope I posted this in the right place. Anyways does anyone know what services I can safely turn off to make windows xp run faster and be more efficient? If there is a way, can you please tell me how step by step because I might not know exactly where to go.

Thanks

One easy way to see Windows(any version since 95) run faster is to reduce the number of startup with the msconfig utility. Keeping your drive defragged is part of maintaining any system for faster data access. I've looked into a long list of things to find that these few tools are the best overall. Microsoft has one other thought called REGCLEAN which cleans useless entries out of the system registry as well as repairing default values needed. With the msconfig you can also go into the services tab and put a check on the "Hide all MS services" in order to reduce software services there. This prevents disabling "the wrong items" needed for XP to run properly.

Ok I defeaged my computer using diskeeper lite and I have also went into the msconfig and did as you said which is "Hide all MS services" and it turns out the rest that is left is stuff that is very basic. Some of the stuff is avg, comodo... stuff like that. Is there any other way to do something and about the Microsoft program called Regclean, I heard it doesn't do it's job. So is there another program you recomend?

Thanks you guys, I see a big difference already. By the way Motoxrdude I went to Tips on speeding up Windows XP and that is really amazing. Where did you learn that and one more thing. Instead of changing my theme to the windows classic, I left it as the xp one. Would there be a difference?

It depends on your preference as far as themes go. I always slap it right back to the classic view so I can make changes in the way the desktop and Start menu and task bar look through the advanced appearance settings. You can easily change the color of the 3D objects, title bars, background if no bitmap file is being used, and a list of other things. The XP style is pretty much locked in with the shades of blue on the task bar and Windows of course comes with a list of default bitmaps for the desktop.
