windows xp to vista connection

hello pal.i wish to seek for ur assistance in resolving the issue of networking between my windows xp os with a friends pc running on windows vista svc pk1 32bit.i have connected the two pcs via a twisted pair cable but my pc is not always shown on his pc so we could share data.i assigned static ip to both pcs but its not working.any corrective sugestion is well appreciated pls.
 
1st check u r using right lan wire i.e the wire is a lan wire or not then check if it is damaged or not , if it is fine then check ur ethernet hardware... if every thing is rite..... check firewall setings of windows vista..
 
I am not an expert but I do know you will have to use a crossover cable for PC to PC connection.

Always remember like devices use crossover cables.
