Windows XP will not load

On my other computer the computer starts up normally until it start loading winndow xp and then a blank screen and goes back to starting up again. I have run DSKCHK and it found 2 error and it did not fix it. I have tryed "going to the last best setup that worked" and still the same. I have also tried going to safe mode but it will not. Any suggestions? Also if I upgraded to Vista will this save my files from my harddrive? Thanks for any info? Gene
 
Have you swapped harddrives into computer you wish to boot from, or haven you changed harddrives at all?

Also, have you done any hardware changes before computer started screwing up?
