windows xp x64=crap?

ok...well recently i had been thinking about buying a ccomputer and building it myself and about a week ago i did. got the wrong socket procesor and sent it back and everything. got the new one and just finished building it lats night. what i got was

asus A8N-SLI deluxe
amd anthlon 64 4000+ (socket 939)
and sadly windows xp x64....

now i thought i needed x64 since it was a 64 bit procesor....and oh how unfortuently wrong i was abotu that. i was talking to a friend of mine who says that normal 32 bit works fine and that its acually better. there seems to be MANY compadability issues with x64. if anyone can help me i would really apreciate it

1. are there any wirless adapters out there (usb [preferably linksys]) that will work on my x64? when i insert the disk for my old one (wusb54g) i get an error saying the program will not work with my operating system and to go to www.linksys.com for one that will work. but i can not seem to find any. also when i try to install the driver for it that i got from the site i get this error
erroryj4.png

what should i do because even after that i installed the driver and the wireless still doesnt work...right now i am curently directly hooked up to our "family" PC to get internet to DL drivers and try and get this working...

2. when i tried to install the drivers for my vid. card (right from the CD) (saphire raedon x850xt or something liek that =) i get an error that i am missing the PDI file...then after it finishes installing and i reboot i get an error saying something about not having an ATI driver installed and that it isnt working properly....is there one i can get online somewhere for this?

3.also why i am at it... (this may be the noobiest computer question you have ever got here but...) when i am scrolling through txt ie. the internet or something in notepad, the screen doesnt go down but it... well "teleports" down ha ha. like instead of smoothly going down it will start to move very slow, then just jump down to where it should be.

4. EDIT: found out this is not compatible...waste of 80 bucks or so....now maybe i'll buy that USB blue lighted key board i was thinking about...

if anyone here can help me with these problems i would greatly apreciate it. i can not have my computer down here constantly to get internet so i am trying to get everything i need right now...or at least something for my wireless so i can move it out of here.

also if LAX sees this i would like to personally thank him for his guide on how to build a computer because it helped me greatly.

It's not crap in itself. Windows XP 64-bit fully utilises the 64-bit capabilities of 64-bit CPU's (too many '64-bits' there, I think).

However, you need to view 64-bit XP as completely different to standard XP, in the sense that drivers for standard XP (Home, Pro, MCE) do NOT work on 64-bit XP. So, all you can do is hope that the manufacturer provides drivers especially for 64-bit Windows.

I'll do a quick search for your wireless driver.

EDIT: They do not provide drivers for XP x64. So, all I can suggest is to buy a standard XP Home/Pro, and install on your system, but you may as well keep your x64 installed on it, you paid good money for it. So, have a dual boot system, and use one or the other, depending what yo are going to be using.

Until then, it'll have to be an ethernet cable between the compouter and the router.

so....if i cant get a wireless driver for x64 then im well...shit out of luck with wireless and i would have to conect it via ethernet? also my friend says that with x64 there isnt that much of a preformance increase and that i owuld have been better off with standard xp

^^ yeah. 64 is sorta like vista. you gotta make sure in the first place that you have all compatible softwares and hardwares before even thinking about using the os.

this sucks =) ha ha....so im stuck with an OS where pretty much nothing works on it. and if it does i have to do some mad searching...

either that or...

go out to the store and pay another $xx or so for windows xp OEM (normal 32) and install it and have the old x64 just lieing around...tough choice

edited first post. found out form logitechs site that the keyboard and mouse isnt suported by x64 =\
and damn..this "laggy" scroll thing is starting to piss me off...god i love my computer

Go here.

They have a sub-forum for queries regarding programs in x64, and near the bottom of the list, they have a sub-forum, containg a list of working drivers for x64 (by list, I mean a list of thread), with a thread in there about... installing drivers for a WIRELESS WUSB54G. So, this forum should be of great use to you, and anyone else with XP x64.

http://extended64.com/forums/thread/1357.aspx

thats the thread i found from google lol but he has like a wp something so i dont think they will work... i been talking to my dad he says since i didtn register it i as mine as well unistall x64 and all the drivers...then getnormal x32 and install that....therefore i will still have x64 laying around for when it gets goo din the future and most things vonvert to it or something...

depends how well my search goes for drivers i need now...

x64 is not equal to crap, u just are unaware of its potential. it is not widely used that is why drivers are not fully compatible. you not knowing that 32 bit apps worked on a 64 bit processor shows this. my advice, dual boot xp32 and x64 windows.

does anyone know where i can find video drivers? cause when i install them from the CD i get errors about how im missing a PDI file and all this crap...and my video car disnt working right...and when i say that i mean i cant even watch a 3D screen saver...

don't worry about that notice too much, install it and you can check after under system manager if things are working, or uninstall if things f
' up. you are generrally have to go to your hardware manufacturers website for 64 bit drivers. if you have newer hardware you shouldn't have much of a problem finding drivers.
i have dual boot only because my printer doesn't have 64bit drivers. if it wasn't for my printer i would be all 64.

do you by any chance have wireless internet and an adapter? cause i got my wireless keyboard and mouse to work...(i didnt need the software that came with it to get it to work) and i got my video drivers and what not tow ork but i still can not get wireless i nternet to work. although i am posting from my computer now...i am hooked up to my router and i have like 2 PC's right next to each other so i can get internet for now.... but i cant permantly have it here.... ha ha i was looking into those ralink drivers and googled em and went to their site....but it says i have to install chinise....and if i click cancel the site doesnt show up at all.... if anyon has a direct link to the ralink drivers (maybe on rapipdshare or something) not from their site, then i would really apeciate it if they could post a link to them.

im thinking about trying to dualboot linux....maybe then that would be a little better....any sugestions?

gr...i can not DL and install adobe flash player. i click install but the thing just closes and doesnt install...ffs

some people look at xp x64 as a pain...i look at it like a challenge:P lol youll find with 64-biting that a lot of things are hard to install but if you look hard enough and try some of your own ideas you can generally get everything working... luckily i have nvidia chipset and graphics card and they work well with x64 drivers but my printer for instance wasnt but i checked the website and found a work around to get it too work so if u play with it sometimes u can get it to work
