Hi Everybody,
This is my first time here so hi everyone. I recently purchased a New Gateway Computer and it came preinstalled with Windows Vista. Is there anyway that I can istall windows Xp on here. I've tried searching for different ways to do this but I kept coming to a lose. I hope someone can help me.
Thank you,
sunnie

First I would create your restore disc for Vista , then all you'll need to do is buy a copy of XP and install it. Also make sure that the drivers are avaiable for your computer on Gateway's website for XP. The reason I suggest you make your restore disk is that some day you may want to go back to Vista.

Hi,
thank you for getting back to me. I did this and then I put the windows installation xp cd in and it said that iaStor.sys is corrpted. Can you explain to me what that means.
thank you, sunnie

Did you set the bios to boot to the cd? You should go into your bios and set the boot priority as your rom drive. This is so it will boot to the disk.

When you first turn on your computer, keep hitting the delete key until your bios screen comes up. Once it does look for the boot order option and change it until it says that the first boot device is the CD, with the HDD as the second device.

Once you have it installed you will want to go back and change it to the HDD being the first device.

Hi, I did what you asked me to do. Kept hitting the delete key until my bios screen comes up. Once it does look for the boot order option and change it until it says that the first boot device is the CD, with the HDD as the second device but it still says the samething about iaStor.sys is corrpte

Hey Everybody,
Thank you all for taking time out to respond to my messages but I'm just gonna take my computer to a computer shop and ask them if they can go ahead and install windows xp for me. I asked Office Depot if they could install it for me since their the ones I actually purchased it from but they told me that I couldn't install windows xp on here because it's a newer version of windows and windows can't downgrade back to xp. I've search all over the internet and I've found people who have gotten windows xp installed on their computer even though theirs came preinstalled with vista which mine also did. They were even able to install it as a second operating system. Do you think that I will be able to get it installed on mine even as a second operating sysytem ?
Thank you, sunnie

I suggest not going to major stores to get computer help. it will likely be overly expenisve and not that good. find a non band name local store or a neighbor kid for help. go with the one with the best reputaion.

i would image that if remove vista so you have a blank harddrive, install XP and try to install vista that it should put them both together. what happens when you try to install XP with vista already on there? it should still work if you make a new partion for it.

Hi diroga,
When I try to install xp on my computer it says something about my computer not having any hard disk drives and then it says that windows cannot continue with installation. Press F3 to restart your computer.

well if your computer turns on and you still got vista then we know the harddrive is there and is working to some degree. Is the xp cd not beingable to see the harddrive reatlated to the iastor.sys problem? If you can get that fixed then you can try burning a CD of gparted

download this cd ISO
http://download.tuxfamily.org/gpartedlive/gparted-livecd-0.3.4-10.iso

i dont know what program you can use to burn it in vista(suggestions?).

with gparted you can partion your harddrive. what you will do is scrink partion to half or what ever size you want and add a new ntfs partions. after this try to install XP. it should detect a free space hopefully.

Hi diroga,
Thanks for getting back to me. I actually tried that and I ran into the same problem and I ended up having to install my whole operating system. I may just end up taking it to someone and have them install windows xp for me. I know it may cost a good bit hopefully not to much but I can't seem to do it on my own and from having to install vista again last night I don't want to screw up my computer again. Do you think it's possible for me to get xp installed on my computer or am I just wasting my time? I really want windows xp back.

if you had a working XP CD you could just remove vista, install XP then install vista, I think. I dont have vista but makes sense to me that you would be able to do that.
