Hello

Can you not copy a windows xp cd onto a cd rom and have it work? I bought windows xp with my computer and the computer has a cd rom rewrittable drive that can easily copy cds. It is not as if I want to do anything illegal I just really do like having another disc available if I loose my original. I copied the windows xp cd on a cd rom disc by doing this and when I was having problems with my computer I wanted to fully format my hard drive and reinstall windows. So I place the copied cd in the cd rom drive and try to boot from the cd but it won't allow. I then try again with the original and it works. Thinkin' that the copied cd must be scratched or something I copy another one and try it again with the second copy but it doesn't work just like the first copied cd. What's up with this. Is there something that prevents you from copying cds. I have been doing this with all other cds and seems to work O.K. should I not be doing this with them also because of a potential problem. Please explain THANKS!

You can't directly copy a Windows cd. There are, I believe, a couple of steps and programs that you need to use in order to copy the Windows cd onto your HD, and then put it from your HD to the cd.

i need to find a copy of XP HOME CD, I own a seriel number but no cd came with my computer.. I tried looking for a torrent but all i can find is XP PRO... maybe i can get a copy of a CD.

Try burning it at lower speeds. I think my uncle once told me that at speeds over like 4X or 8X it can't read files smaller than 8KB or something. Maybe it's skipping files since you are reading/writing at too fast of a speed. I'm not sure of the exact speed or the sizes of the file. Just a thought, maybe slow it down a bit.

i thought coping these is illegal

some would arghue that but as long as you register it with your own product key then it will be fine. And also as long as you have personally bought and paid for a copy of the OS
