Windows7 won't start after using Adv System Care and W7 updates

Hi all,
I thought I was doing the right thing by my month-old laptop by using advanced system care 4 to "deep clean" the registry, junk files, defrag, etc.

I then shutdown and it began installing windows updates (I don't remember allowing this but I guess I did).

On the following start up, it entered my Windows 7 user profile but froze during the start up. I forced shutdown by pressing power off and turned it on again, but this time it would not get passed the "welcome" loading screen. It will start in safe mode though.

I am guessing the problem may be to do with Advanced System Care accidentally deleting important files rather it being related to the windows updates.

But I guess it could also be a virus, as I have just now read that Advanced System Care may interfere with other virus software? I use Avast and MSE - but Avast, at least, seems to update every time I connect to the net.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Heather

You can only have 1 AntiVirus program installed at any given time. I say get rid of advanced system care and decide to keep either avast or mse but not both.

Problem solved - I did a system restore with my windows 7 cd after backing up recent work through safe mode.

As for anti-virus software, for the last couple of years I've used both Avast and MSE with no ill-effects or performance problems, (at least as far as I am aware). My understanding was that it can be a kind of insurance that if one program doesn't pick up on a virus or malware the other might? Why is it bad to use more than one?

Cheers,
Heather

it does not work that way. They all have about the same virus definitions, thus will all find the same viruses.
that plan uses double your system resources. It would work fine if yuo had say a 990x/1100T and 12+ GB of ram, but I doubt that you have that, thus would suggest you only use one.

color coded the response for you.

Has nothing to do with that. The problem is that they will conflict with one another and cause issues.

Yeah, you will see a performance drop but the main reason is each virus program will conflict with another. Thats why most won't install if it detects another antivirus program installed.
