WinXP Explorer runaway

I have a new Gateway dual core, 1GB, WinXP Media Edition pile of junk. After booting up, it

it becomes mostly unusable within a couple of hours due to Win Explorer gobbling up more

than 50% of CPU resources. Re-booting calms the beast down for another couple of hours.

After customer support could not resolve my problem, I painstakingly re-formatted and

re-installed Win XP. The same problem returned. Please note that this is not due to a virus,

adware or other nasty. Also note that it is not due to a corrupt .AVI file. The few I have

are stored on a separate disc, play good, and not accessed when the problem occurs. I tried

using a windows explorer replacement, but can't access my desktop or other programs. Hitting

the windows logo flag thing does nothing. If nothing can fix this, do you know of a Win

Explorer replacement that will let me access all programs and my desktop.

Well, tell that to sony, they install root kits on their systems. Google it, you will find lots of articles about it. Not to mention, its technically not totally illegal if the user agrees to the terms in the EULA. That is how a lot of companies get around that type of stuff.

Agreeing to install the software and agreeing to the EULA means that you agree to whatever terms the software offers.

n your EULA it says that cydoor comes bondled with install and it also says this
"If you wish to remove this program from your system, be sure to remove the Cydoor ad-support item as well. You can do this through the 'Add/Remove Programs' applet in the Control Panel"
so you have no right to stop user from using LimeWire after removing cydoor. nowhere in your EULA does it say that user MUST run cydoor in order to use LimeWire.
also your install is broken becuase it does not create cydoor uninstall entry in 'Add/Remove Programs' applet in the Control Panel.

This is why I am very careful about what P2P software I use, this is also another reason why my machines are pretty much virutally spyware free (though every now and then something may get on my system, I am not immune just more secure).
