You mean get rid of ALL data?

It's called formatting it. You can use a program like WDCLEAR and put it on a bootable floppy disk, and it will wipe your Harddrive. However, you lose everything, including the operating system. You'll have to purchase a new one.

Do you mean operating system? Sorry im kinda new but couldnt you just reinstall the one you already bought?

BTW Be sure to backup before you format and check your back up and make sure its all there. I didnt check mine and lost lots of data. It sucked:mad:

Possibly, but it's not common. If he is using Windows XP, there is a CD-Key for it. One you've used that CD-Key once, it can't be used again (in most cases.) Store bought copies of XP are "one-time use", and if you need to re-install it for w/e reason, you have to call M$ and get a new activation code. They may or may not give you a new one, however they've never refused me. IF all things fall through, you just have to buy a new copy.

When i said i just reinstalled, it was actually a mac and im not familer with installing windows

i reformatted my comp. last nght and me old product key wouldnt work, i called microsoft and they simply gave me a new key as long as you have your old sticker of authendicity *spelling* and can conferm a few details they will generate a new one for you.
