Wiping

I can't wipe out an O/S that I am using...

So then why are you asking how to wipe if its your OS drive?

If you are reformatting, and have your media.. reboot, change boot order so it boots from the media (disc, usb drive..etc) and delete/format from the panel that comes up..then install windows onto the fresh/formatted drive.

think i'd creat a backup image of the os before doing anything else. theres software like macrium or easeus for a freebie if needed.

If you wanted to wipe it to sell or donate then you can boot from DBAN (http://www.dban.org/)

Alternatively on Linux you could just DD /dev/random or zero onto the entire drive's capacity.

Otherwise if you're just reinstalling Windows, deleting the partitions from the Windows installer is good enough.

I have a lot of time on my hands. Am I doing something you don't like? I would like to wipe WIN 10 and install WIN 8.1. I have a feeling this is impossible.

Yah, your wasting peoples time who are trying to help. Stop being so wishy washy and ask the questions you need help with..don't play these games where you flip flop from thread to thread, and say you actually meant this or that in the SAME thread.

Makes it hard to help you, and just cause you have nothing to do, don't waste other peoples time when they could be helping someone else.

You have bounced between, need a free win10 key, to formatting, to upgrading..and this feels like your playing games..

Clear enough?

Judging from what I have been told in this thread, I think I have to put my media disc in and go from there (reformat, etc, etc.).
