Wireless Access Point

I have a bit of a situation.
I have a wireless router in my house that broadcasts the internet and my network around the house. However I have in my shed my xbox 360 and a couple of computers, the wireless signal struggles to penetrate the tin walls. So my question is, is it possible to use a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to receive my the signal and extend it. also is it possible to plug ethernet cables in the back to access the network?

Yes, but typically they are limited(by software) to what can be used with what. Like my old access point had the features, but would only work with another D-Link router/AP.

Now if you can get DD-WRT on your router, you can use it as an AP and it's a bit more forgiving(IE I connected to a Linksys router without DD-WRT once )
