Wireless card in Laptops?

I always thought that laptops has metal case wireless card that plugged into the mother board. I am told that the wireless is build onto the mother board. Does this mean that if the wireless fails it rquires a new mother board?, and I am also unable to upgrade to wireless N?
 
never never seen a laptop with it built into the motherboard. All of the ones I have seen have them attached to a PCI or PCIe port on the motherboard with 2 wires (antenna) that attach to the LCD to bring in the signal.
You will be able to upgrade if your laptop ever came with wireless n in them, assuming you can find one. Or a Expresscard adapter if you have that on your laptop.
 
While I'm sure they exist, I have yet to see a laptop with a wireless card integrated into the motherboard. Typically the wireless card is seated in a Mini PCI-E slot (Or Mini PCI for older laptops), often accessible through a removable door on the underside... whoever you heard otherwise from is wrong.

Laptop wireless cards are interchangeable and upgradable, so long as you have the correct drivers.
