wireless card problem everex laptop

i have an everex va2001t stepnote laptop with crappy vista. i just purchased a house and got cable installed with cable broadband. i purchased a linksys wrt54g wireless router.

i got everthing installed and hooked up and the wireless card in my laptop wouldn't connect. i figured out i had to hit keys FN+F2 to get the wireless card to work. it still wouldn't connect. i went throught the linksys setup again and it worked. after i shutdown the computer and rebooted the wireless card light was still lit up but it wouldn't recognize the wireless router. i had to go through the setup with linksys again. how can i get around this, having to setup the wireless card with the router everytime i restart. why won't it recognize the wireless router. would it be worth it to get something wireless that i can plug into my usb port? can i replace wireless card with something else?

the wireless card is an Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter. i think that is what it is. I'm not that computer savy but i'm pretty sure thats the card i have in my laptop.

i've heard it could be a driver, how can i fix that? any help would be greatly appreciated:)

I have run into this before.

My sons computer does that from time to time. All he has to do is unplug the card and it finds the connection.

IF your running windows 98,,you are going to find that lynksys is hit or miss.

You will have to call linksys and talk to the curry eating ones and they can walk you through it.Plan on being online for a while and saying What did you say? alot.:D

Actually they have been quite helpful in the past but the English is horrible.

They may give you a hard time about not having a Linksys card.Tell them you are going to take the router back and get a Atheros. They will change their tune.

well i must have done something right because it has been working right, i even restarted about 10 times and it's still connecting, YAY!

good for you.

I had a rough install yesturday on a computer with a linkys wrt54g.

I tried using all the Linkys downloading tools and wound up spending the next two hours on the phone with Linkys helping me do it manually.Sometimes computers just want to fight going wireless or the IP address interferes with it.

IF you have any more trouble out if it call Linkys. Those guys speak heavy on the curry side but they really know how to trouble shoot their systems.
