im getting wireless internet and im not sure what type of card to go for and what i should be looking for. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks and also with a modem do i have to get a certain brand or will any generic wireless card work with a wireless modem thing. :D

What type of internet do you have?

If you have internet right now, you already have a modem. I think you're talking about a wireless router and a wireless adapter. Brands don't matter much, but D-Link is a brand to stay away from with routers.

yeah a router i thought i was gettin it wrong. so i should stay away from d link. thanks for that! i wondered why i could get any real good search results on google. thanks!

Well there are 3 basic types of routers/wireless cards:
802.11B: 11Mbps
802.11G: 54Mbps
802.11N: 108Mbps

It all depends on how fast you want your network to be. Your internet speed is not more than 8Mbps, so whichever one you choose isn't going to affect internet, only file transfer speeds.

well im working on getting a new isp in the next couple of months so im just aiming for the faster the better and its really is just for browsing and outlook really.

i'll probs post again when i have a new isp. thanks for the help man!

802.11N: 108Mbps
The others are correct, but 802.11n isnt finalized yet, and draft-n products can reach much higher speeds then 108. You're probably thinking of products such as rangemax, super g, speedbooster, etc, which boost the speed to 108.

When 802.11n is finalized, it may reach speeds of up to 300Mb/s.

Actually I was just coming back to change that, as I looked at N routers on Newegg.
