WIRELESS CONNECTION ISSUE (help ASAP please) - right place to post this?

Anyway, as the title says I'm having issues getting my wireless internet to work at the place I've currently moved to to save money, (my dad's... joy of joys..).
I just tried to hook up my wireless router, directly into his HUB since that's what he said to do (but he's pretty dumb when it comes to this new stuff)... My desktop and the laptop both picked up on the network I have programmed into the router, but as they were connected nothing would actually work on it. MSN wouldn't connect, webpages wouldn't load...

So I brought up an online manual for my router (D-Link WBR-3210) and it says to hook the ethernet cable from the computer to the WAN port on the router. So I took his cord and did as instructed.
Step two: Plug an enthernet cord into a LAN port on the router and the other end into the computer. Did that.
... still nothing.

Now the issue... my dad suddenly tells me he doesn't want my router running off his computer. He absolutely will not allow it. the HUB is fine, but his computer is a huge HELL NO, and I have no idea why. Now this is an issue for me considering EVERYTHING of mine is wireless...

So how can I get this set up and working through the HUB so we can all be content? I really don't want to get into another argument with him...

I don't think you can get this to work by hooking up through his hub. If it was a switch maybe. You will have to hook your router up to his modem and then he can hook up his hub to your router if he wishes.

Something he sadly will not allow me to do since he won't let me touch his set-up at all...

Someone told me if I got a crossover cable and hooked that into the WAN and HUB.. would that help?

I don't know. All I know is that I had issues sharing internet to a couple pc's using a hub so i had to use a router instead. What his setup? Does he have hub hooked up to modem? Are you sure its a hub and not a switch?

Fairly sure it's a hub, and his modem is hooked into that. I'm currently using the laptop on a wired connection via the hub. For some reason he won't let me touch any of his set up, even if I can get it to work for all of us.

I'm thinking if I can get my hands on a cross over cable tomorrow I'll give that a try and see where I end up. if it doesn't work I'll just return it I guess...

OKAY. So apparently it's a Switch NOT a hub... I was just going off what my dad told me, but someone else told me that he has a switch.

So... blah.

Go into your router's settings and disable DHCP. You'll need to connect from the switch to one of the LAN ports on the router, and ignore the WAN port all together. Basically what you're doing is turning your router into a wireless switch, which is what you need to do since you're not connecting directly from the modem to the router.

I'll see if the router's website will load for me today so i can get into the settings.

I don't understand why the site won't load so i can log into my router's settings... it's still not letting me. Could it be the way I have it connected? Should I just connect it like I normally would to see if the site loads then?

EDIT
okay. did a regular set up for the router while my dad is out... got intot he settings. now disabling DHCP then returning his set up to how it was and giving this LAN and Switch thing a try.

EDIT EDIT:
DHCP is disabled... I am now getting LIMITED TO NO CONNECTIVITY on all wireless things. How can I resolve this?

EDIT... again:
Now I can't get back into the router settings with the standard router set up ever since disabling the DHCP... the desktop can't even get onto the internet with the standard router set up ever since disabling that.
How can I get back into my settings to enable it again?
