wireless connection issues

hi all,
ok so my situation is this: the wireless on my laptop flat out won't connect to the home network. the crappy old desktop that i am on currently which is just used for a download beast has no issues at all and connects instantly however my laptop just will not connect even though it finds the network and shows full strength. i have tried the repair connection option as well as turning off the router and searching for a network so that it will come up with nothing and then turning it back on hoping that this may "refresh" the connection in some way but to no avail. any ideas would be appreciated.

So what's it do exactly? Just sits there "acquiring network address"? If this is the problem, most of the time it's something relating to security settings (WEP/WPA/Whatever entered incorrectly)

nah it doesn't even get that far. if i go through the repair option it will go: "dissabling network adaptor" "enabling network adaptor" "connecting to network" and it will just sit there for ages and then come up with an error message saying unable to connect. the most frustrating part is that it has just happened. one day it was working, the next it is not! it used to fail to connect occasionally and i'd just restart or log off and log back on and it'd be right but the last couple of times it just won't connect at all!

That's a pretty good idea, I know a lot of people that had some update to Windows about a month or two ago and it caused all sorts of problems with their wireless connections.

i thought i should add that it seems to only be to begin with after i turn it on. i left it sitting there for about 30-45mins and it connected by itself. it just doesn't want to connect straight up...

i can't connect to the internet to download them. is there a way i can download them on another computer and then install on my laptop?

just downloaded + installed newest driver updates available for my wireless and it has made no difference. this laptop is seriously wearing down my patience! does any-one have any other suggestions of what i could try...
