Wireless connection problem

I recently got ThomsonSpeedtouch 780WL(i) router D-link dwl g-122 usb adapter and i'm having some problems with playing games online. download and upload speeds are fine, as expected, but playing anything online is much worse than wired. i get heavy lags (4-5 sec) every 2 or 3 minutes. can this be solved by replacing usb adapter with a better one? or any other way to make wireless gaming better?

how far away are you from your link???

What is your OS???

Also, have you tried a different USB port??

i'm not so close to the router, computer is one floor above the router. (that's why i have wireless)

my OS is windows XP home, sp2.

and i'll try different ports and see if it helps.

i have tried different usb ports (all i have) and it didn't help. i'll try to move computer downstairs and see if it helps.

thnx for help!

No problems, let me know how it goes and we might be able to find another solution or see how it goes, do that first, but i do have an idea, if that brings up nothing.

hm... update...

i moved my pc closer to router, signal sterngt rose from very low to very good. but lags still happen the same way they did before. i'm sure i had no lags when i had wired internet. what could be the problem with wireless?

Well the only thing we can to do test it is test another computer on it or..

Do the following:

Go into Run (Start > Run) type cmd and then type ipconfig

Then type in ping 'default gateway' eg ping 192.168.1.1

Then tell us how many ms (milliseconds) the ping time is on wireless and then do the same on wireless.....

post the results.

thanks.

P.S. - I hope the instructions are clear :o

minimum = 1ms, maximum = 2ms, average = 1ms

and i can't do it wired because i would have to pierce trough ceiling to do so...

OK, well i'm running out of ideas, caused that is good... and wired would most likely be the same.
