I already have a home wireless network in use. The router is a Linksys wrt54gs broad band router. It feeds a wireless laptop in another part of the house and all is well, connection wise.
Today I attempted to connect a Compaq Presario pc to the network using a Linksys USB adapter (wusb54g). I installed the software for the network adapter and working through the connection process everything was going normal.
The adapter connected with the router with good signal but the linksys graphic that came up in the connection window showed that my router was not connected to the modem. Surely the modem and router ARE connected since it has been sending wireless signal to my laptop all the while.
In the past, I have had other computers connected to this same network exactly as I am attempting with this one. The only difference is that I have now secured my system with a password. Since my password was accepted and the adapter and router connected, it doesn’t seem likely to me that the secure connection would be the problem.
I have researched the internet for a similar situation and tried everything I know to try. If someone has a possible solution in mind for this, I would appreciate any advice. If you need more information, let me know. Thanks!
