wireless connection to a cable connection

My family has a computer that is on the opposite side of the house that my room is on (about 30-40 feet) and it is hooked up to the internet with a cable through a modem.

I want internet and I want my pc in my room, so I need to connect into this. What all would I need and how would it work and would there be a chance of getting "hacked into" with the wireless deal. and would I have to create a network?

you would need to get a wireless router. Take the ethernet cord from the modem (which is connected from the modem to the computer), and plug it into the router. You'll have to have a second cord that goes from the computer into the router. (So you have your modem with a cord to the router, then a cord to your computer). then, once all is hooked up, go into the router (it'll have directions with the router), and created a WEP, which is just about unhackable (unless you ahve someone with WAY too much time on their hands, and is into cracking household netoworks....). then the network is created. :)

ok cool, much less complicated than i expected, that or you are really really good at explaining things! lol
