Hello I play alot of MMORPGs and all I have is a 54mbps wireless netgear router and its fine at times but it is pretty far from the modem and I was wondering if there is there something that will boost the signal and make it run at 54mbps all the time or am I gonna have to drill holes like a mouse in cheese to Hardwire my machine.

You dont want to game wirelessly just for that reason. Run a cord... Go thorugh the attic or roof, it is much easier.

what about Power Over Ethernet?

Come one.. did you miss type this response in the wrong thread also?

Go google or Wiki POE.

You could move the router closer, is there a closer Telephone line? Or you could run the Cat5 cable poutside the house.

what about Power Over Ethernet?
What the heck does that have to do? Do you even know what that is?

As Trizoy said, ethernet would be the best option for gaming. But you could always buy another AP to extend the range.

What am i thinking of then??? I'm thinking of the thing where you plug an Ethernet cord into a device where that plugs into a power outlet, then there is another one at the router and you plug the 2nd one to it. what am I thinking of???

im just gonna give it a shot at deciphering what you have just said...
here goes:

/deciphering begin/

you are thinking of connecting the modem to the router (i guess, not that i can read your mind.. :D) and the device you are talking about is the modem...
when you say the device connects to power outlet, im guessing thats the power cord?? if not it may be the RJ11 cable that you are talking about... in that case, that device is a dial-up modem and the wall outlet is your telephone outlet, not power outlet...

/deciphering ends/

:D:D:D

You mean ethernet over the wall outlets? Thats a solution but it usually has alot of interference and doesnt usually work to well.

not even close
its a small pug goes to the power outlet. the Ethernet goes right on the plug. then anywhere in your house is the 2nd one. that is the same kind of device that goes to the Ethernet router. Picture this. a small box that goes into a power outlet. on the small box you put an Ethernet cord from it to computer.

edit-omega, i think your on the right track.

At first I thought you were saying that what I said wasnt right :P

I've seen those devices and they should work ok, but not as good as a regular wired ethernet cable.

better than wireless? And see! I know what i was talking about! I just didn't know the name of it!

Yeah I have heard of those wall outlet things, I have also heard that they are terrible for gaming and even wireless is better, [-OMEGA-] you mentioned something about an "ap" are you talk about a device that extends the range of your wireless modem?

AP, short for access point, can be used in conjunction with your current wireless router or router/modem combo, and be used as a repeater so you can extend the range of your wireless network.
