I built my Computer. the wireless internet has been working fine for a year now and just the other day it stopped. it says that it is still connected with excellent signal but it wont bring up or load any web page. Any ideas?

Do you have any other computers on the network, wired or wireless? Do they work?

Can you access anything else over the network? A good test would be to go to your browser and try to access your router. Just type in the IP address of your router. For most, it's 192.168.1.1, but some brands are 192.168.11.1, 192.168.2.1, etc... Your router's manual should say what it is.

Or, if you go to Start > Run > CMD > ipconfig
Make sure your IP address is within the range of your gateway. IE if the gateway is 192.168.1.1, your IP address should be 192.168.1.x, x being between 2-254. If this is correct, the gateway is your router's IP address. If you hadn't already, try typing it into your browser and seeing if you can access it.

i do have two other computers on the network and they work fine. i have tried going to the 192.168.1.1 which is the one for my router and i cant get to that either. the only way i can get online is to plug directly into the router with an Ethernet cord. i can get to the routers IP address now that im plugged straight in to the router. but i dont think anything on there needs to be changed since the other two computers work fine. it just worked a couple days ago and it says its connected now so im not understanding whats going on.

have you tried rebooting the router at all, sometimes on mine the wireless side of the router will lock up but wired side works fine, if i reboot mine it seems to sort the problem out.

Only other thing I could suggest is to try connecting a different computer through wireless(maybe a friend or family) and see if that works, if it does the problem is with your laptop, if it doesnt then i would say your router has died on the wireless side.

i had tried rebooting it and it didnt work either. i went and bought a brand new router yesterday hoping that would work but it didnt help at all. the desktop i built is the one thats not working. the two laptops are working fine. the desktop says that it is connected with excellent signal but it won connect to any website. i know its not the router. its brand new and the other two laptops work great. i guess i could try changing out my wireless PCI card but i dont really think that it is either because it is only a year old and it says that it is connected. suggestions?

Well, have you tried updating/installing all the drivers for your PCI card?

all of the drivers have been installed for the PCI card it was working for a year now. i can try updating them. would the same disk that i used to install them update them as well?

You should have started a thread of your own. However, try downloading and running winsock fix and that should restore your internet. You will need to download the file on a computer that has internet access and then copy the file to a usb flash drive and then transfer it to the nonworking computer and run. Get winsock fix here...

If you go into cmd (start>run>type "cmd">enter) and type ipconfig /all what do you get? Also what happend before this started happining?

Well there is your problem. Your wireless i bet is set on a static IP. Go into network properties and right clikc on your wireless network adapter and hit properties. then in the new window there will be a scroll box, scroll down until you see something with tcp/ip in it and click on it and hit properties. then make sure its set to obtain a IP automaticaly and the DNS is set to obtain also. This should fix it.

and it works. thank you for your help. do you know how it got changed? i mean it worked fine for the longest time and then stopped out of nowhere

I can't think of any reason it would get changed unless you set it manually for some testing purpose.
