Wireless Internet Oddity

Hi everyone. Recently I got a new wireless adapter (for my desktop) to replace my old one. I went through a few that weren't giving me enough range. During this time I was forced to plug in our old extender in order to get a connection. So over the past week there have been 3 wireless adapters plugged into my motherboard and installed on my computer. When I was using the extender the computer would go through this process once started up/taken off standby: first it says it was connected to the internet (normal connection bars only), then after a second say it was connected but with no internet (exclamation mark over signal bars), then it would totally disconnect, then it would give me the "working" spinning circle over the internet bars (meaning it was connecting) then it would give me the exclamation mark for a second then I would finally get internet. The connections are the same network (my home network, which is what I want to connect to). I figured it was because it would try to connect to the router and then realize it was getting a better signal from the extender and connect to that. Now I have a card I am going to keep and have unplugged the extender because it's not needed. I thought this would solve the problem but the exact same thing still happens. This is totally new and started happening sometime since I have been messing with the wireless cards. My computer used to simply be connected within 1 second of startup/windows resume from standby. Now every single time I start it up/take if off standby it takes 10 seconds to go through the insane process stated above. I tried deleting all my saved wireless connections, resetting the adapter and it didn't work. What is wrong? How do I fix this irritating bad habit? I realllly appreciate your help. I'm at a loss of what to do and I know there are a lot of geniuses on this site that can help my me with my intermediate desperation. :o

Sorry... I don't really know what to cut out. I wanted it to be thorough so I could get better help. It only takes a minute anyways.

Uninstall all the software for the old adapters not in use anymore and then delete any wireless network settings for existing connections and then reset it all back up and try connecting again. It's possible the security setup isn't compatible with the wireless card as well.
