Wireless modem Question

My PC sits twelve feet from the router and I was dowloading a ton of things. My G.F . was sitting ten feet from the router on her laptop and said the videos were slow. Her son was down stairs also watching YouTube videos and was also seeing slow , jerky videos. That's the reason why I asked. Aside from downloads, I also fly on the Microsoft Flight Sim. which is very demanding, could that also cause them problems ? I use a gamming PC for that .Thanks

If you have one PC that is utilizing close to your full amount of allocated WAN/Internet bandwidth then you will see reduced speed on the WAN/Internet for other clients or different services/downloads from the same PC.
What should not happen, however, is an impact for LAN bandwidth to other clients on the LAN for local transfers (in a wired environment).
In a wireless environment there's a shared pool of bandwidth and higher utilization on the spectrum will decrease performance for the other clients based on CSMA/CA and random backoff timers.
Therefore it's generally best to have clients wired when possible, or even do something like use a wireless bridge and have clients on the other side of the bridge be wired into the bridge, leaving effectively two endpoints on the wireless radio instead of multiples.

Short answer is yes.
Your ISP gives you a set amount of bandwidth, depending on how much you pay them. For this example, say you pay for 25Mbps download speed. If you are on your computer downloading files, you are likely using that entire 25Mbps connection, when another user gets on to try and use the internet they will have a poor experience due to you using most of the bandwidth. It won't cut her off completely, as depending on your router they will try to be fair, however if another user is gaming or streaming videos, they will experience lag and frequent buffering.
