Wireless N over G?

I currently use a Linksys wireless G router and everything is fine in the main house, but I have a cottage about 200 feet away fromthe main house that I want to use it as a Bed& Breakfast for another income.
I have a PC in the cottage with a wireless pci card that will pick up the "G" signal at first, but quickly begin to fade to dead.
I read that Dlink Wireless "N" router will give a wider range and may reach the cottage PC.
The cottage is 200 feet away, but the wireless router signal must go thru 3 interior walls and the outside wall of the main house, then 200 and thru the outside wall og the cottage.
What do you think?

I would run an ethernet cable underground in pvc conduit. 200 feet is quite a distance for wireless to reach. I don't think you will get much better signal with the N router.

i agree. i ran a 100ft cat6 cable from my room all the way up to our router and at speedtest.net i got over 25mbps. thats way faster than you could ever get with wireless. but you could run the cable a router in the cabin which would give wireless.

That's definitely pushing it for ethernet as well. I wouldn't recommend running an ethernet cable longer then 100 ft. Sure you could do it, but its going to be unreliable and slow. I would look into getting a repeater for your wifi, and try and put it inside your house, but as close to the cottage as possible.

He would be within the 300 foot distance allowed for CAT 5. I think I would take that over going wireless over that distance.

Wireless 'N' would be fine for that distance, i use N and im about 50 ft away from my router, i get 100% signal, when im 200ft away i still get 50-60% signal...

Even with wireless 'G' i can read my neighbors wireless, and hes about 400FT away, i get about 13% signal with that.

I agree. My wireless N router is in the basement, I'm on the first floor on the other side of the house. I have to be at least 100 ft away from it and I get a connection reading of: 95% or so with 81Mbps - 135 Mbps.
